Saw it last night. I think it's a great idea.
Looked up his age. 78
He has barely aged since TNG.

I first saw him as Sejanus in the BBC series Claudius (in the 70')- did not look much different from TNG. That he barely seems to age is primarily because he already looked old when he was young.

The only info I know is the new series featuring Picard takes place 20 years after Star Trek X. I'm curious what Picard will be doing - is he an Admiral, an Ambassador, or still at starship captain? He may not even be in starfleet anymore. I was thinking, since we was into playing a Private Investigator (Dixon Hill) on the holodeck, what if he became some kind of private space investigator of sorts? Like investigating alien artifacts or something (he is an archeologist by hobby). I'm curious what he will be doing, they have an opportunity to do something really new and unique for a Star Trek show and with using a fav character. Will be interesting...

I'd like to see him as a captain of a ship just for nostalgia but maybe they do need to try something different.
All those shows follow a similar formula (not a bad thing). This is probably a good opportunity to go in a different direction.

I bet he'll be in retirement and Star Fleet will need his expertise to deal with some conflict that is both dire and unique to him alone (Borg maybe?). Kinda been done though.

What if Picard is trapped in some Q-game, where he is continuously trying to escape/beat? Each episode Picard finds himself in some extraordinary scenario and when he beats it, he goes on to some new trial. Almost like a Quantum Leap type of thing, but on a larger scale of throughout the known and unknown universe. And Q is in every episode harassing him.

Is it just me, or does it feel like they've done this, before? I just have a hard time seeing how they're going to make it original, new and fresh. Especially with such an old actor. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE TNG, but I don't want it to become this mundane re-telling of the same stories over and over.

We'll see what they come up with, but I can't image that it won't be awesome.

That's pretty cool! Always been a fan of Picard and TnG.
Sad that I'll have to subscribe to CBS all access if I want to watch it though. At least I can watch Star Trek Discovery too while I'm at it.
I'll probably just pay a months subscription once the first season is over and binge the entire show in a month.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first series of discovery but haven’t watched the second as yet. Looking forward to this too. It looks like he’s retired to his brother’s (/the family) vineyard. Is much detail known about the show?
