I'm very pleased that pre-measuring and random charges are staying. Would really hate to see us go back to no pre-measuring. I have been playing the current Necromunda recently and not being able to check ranges is very annoying. I don't even understand why it's there, as random charges are also in. Bleh.
So far it seems that some effort was put into designing the TOW ruleset and it isn't just a nostalgia fuelled cashgrab. Shame about the new models clearly becoming much larger, even though they've promised the game would stay 28 mm.

Shame about the new models clearly becoming much larger, even though they've promised the game would stay 28 mm. The game IS staying 28 mm. it's just that canonically the Warhammer world had a much higher concentration of oxygen in the atmosphere at the time TOW is set, allowing all sort of organisms to be much larger than they are in the "current" times. Much like earth and giant insects million of years ago. But no, for real, that the single most disappointing thing about TOW so far, and also potentially the most fracturing in terms of how it's going to affect the hobby community.

A plausible theory, but my only problem with it is that, as a King of Bretonnia, I'd have thought Louen Orcslayer would be riding a Hippogryph as Louen Leoncoeur did, rather than a Pegasus. But that certainly won't stop GW potentially revealing his model separately at some point later as a big surprise in its own right - indeed maybe that's what's going to be revealed in the preview next weekend, rather than Tomb Kings, or maybe opposite the Settra model. We'll have to see. Certainly the idea is a really cool premise - A Clash of Kings, a poke at Kings of War - and I'd love to see it either as part of the starter boxed game or as the focus of a campaign book for it. Yea, I don't see a Royal Pegasus as a worthy mount for Louen Orcslayer from a fluff perspective. From a marketing perspective I don't see GW releasing a small and/or inexpensive model for him. If they do release a model for him, it will be one of those expensive giant centerpiece monstrosities they are so fond of these days. And it will probably be from Forgeworld too.

That is from a homebrew rules set, if I'm not mistaken? I don't think it is indicative of what GW would release, for the reasons I stated above.

It wouldnt suprise me, of they lock it behind this kit, because then you might pick up another one, after the BSB or duke.

In an early post they talked about push backs and in the current one they talk about units ‘redressing the ranks’. I wonder if a push back might make a unit disordered (perhaps losing rank bonus?) and the ability to redress the ranks would be the unit getting back it’s coherency?

- "Blast templates" confirmed
- Return to shooting in only one rank
- Calculate to hit based off BS stat (not just X+ on the stat line like modern 40K)
- Weapons have armor penetration (AP)
- Example magical vortex is severely nerfed compared to past editions. (Only a sample size of one. So who knows.)

We look to have a new "AP" stat for weapons, which probably means that Strength doesn't affect armour saves any more.
Interesting to note that "unless they have the Volley Fire special rule or are stationed on a hill, only the front rank may fire." - possibly favours smaller units, depending on how widespread the Volley Fire rule is.
Ballistic Skills of 6 or more get you rerolls on misses - that's neat.
The To Wound chart has been changed, so for example Strength 3 cannot wound Toughness 9/10.
News on possible Empire wizards: "Human wizards using Battle Magic can, for instance, blast off a quick fireball, while those blessed by the Dark Gods may use the Lore of Daemonology to conjure a Vortex of Chaos."

Most things look good there - the only real changes with shooting is that armour save modifiers are now dependent upon the weapon rather than the Strength (something carried over from 40K and particularly AoS, I can see why they've done that because it means the player can just refer to the weapon profile rather than having to look at the Strength/Modifier chart in the rulebook) and only the front rank can fire, a return to pre-8th again (not so fond of this particular change because it'll mean non-bow-armed missile units having to go back to deploying in ridiculously long lines to be able to maximise shots). Also, it looks like we're getting a lot more Special Rules, or at least renamed ones - Armour Bane, Bombardment and Cumbersome stand out here. Armour Bane could be just the renaming of Armour Piercing (though why have this rule now when the AP value of a longbow could just be listed as -1?) and Cumbersome could be the renaming of Slow-to-Fire. The biggest thing though is, once again, magic. The two spells previewed make the Tomb King spell previewed earlier look particularly bad now which is sad, and it appears as though there are no more Eight Lores of Magic, and potentially just one Lore of Battle Magic (though Magic Lores could have more than six spells now to compensate). Similarly it's concerning that the Lore of Daemonology might mean there's no more God-Specific Chaos Lores. That's certainly going to take some fluff out of the game.

Back in 4th edition, the base game only had simple magic rules. The real magic rules with all the college specific spells came out in an expansion box set. i wonder it they are planning something similar. We might not get the full magic lores until the the story progresses to the great war against Chaos and Teclis helps found the colleges of magic.

Again, all good news in my opinion. Also the boost of longbows is a welcoming one. Can't wait to see the combat phase.
