From: natfka.blogspot.com/2021/11/rumors-details-on-what-old-world-will-be.html?m=1Content from link below: Rumors: Details on What the Old World Will Be So what will be the core ruleset like for the Old World? This rumor set dives into that and what rulesets the Old World will be similar to or influenced the most by. via a solid source on Faeit 212 The Ruleset for Warhammer the Old World will be 7th Edition to the core, but with smaller influences from the 5th, 6th and 8th Editions. They understood that the 8th was too big in the sense of Army building, even for GW Games. The Core Rules are more or teaser completed and work on the Starter Sets written content and early expansions will soon starting but Miniatures are still in Work There will be a new concept of Expansions Books and three Compendium-like Tomes for 8th Edition Armies before The End Times in a format like Ravening Hordes from the early 6th Edition. It looks like that the concept of Armybooks will stay and continue and The Old World becomes something like the 9th Edition WFB. Those Kislev and Cathay previews are misinterpreted by some people. They do serve more like an advice for Total War and should show how both Games are "interlocked" based on the same Artworks and as part of World Building for the TT Game. Also they will show that the new WFB Game will be not focused on the territories of the Empire as in the past. Those faction will come for The Old World but not from the very beginning.

I thought Faeit 212 had long been considered utterly unreliable when it comes to rumours? They take the "throw enough stuff at the wall" approach, hoping they get something right that sticks. This one looks like pure speculation/wishlisting to me, rewording what GW have already revealed to try and give the post authority, with a couple of speculative additions. I could write a blog post saying "Warhammer: The Old World" will take elements from each of the previous editions (because that's what GW has already told us) and that it'll have Army Books and Campaign Books (because that's how GW has been doing it for 40k/AoS for years).

You're probably correct. I saw the info and simply wanted to share it. I believe the core rules will be more based on 8th edition, but who knows...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure GW has already said that it will be mostly 8th-influenced while still taking elements from previous editions. As sedge said, sounds like wishlisting sprinkled with grains of truth. Posts like these always start to surface when we begin to have lengthy dry spells of information from GW (or FW).

I really hope we see the end of traditional army books but considering even Necromunda has them, it is probably too much to hope for.
GW love to sell us overpriced rules.

Funnily enough I personally would like to see this be the truth. No more of the money-grabbing scheme that was the Horde rule, Bound Spells having a use again, a return to the majority of magic items being race-unique, chargers being able to strike first and unit size determining whether it Panics or not at the death or flight of an ally would all be lovely to see return (so long as we don't see Fear and Terror being game-breaking again), and we can also keep the best bits about 8th like random charge distances, stepping up, ASF and ASL cancelling each other out and supporting attacks while dropping all of the cheese that 8th gave us. Also keeping some of the stuff that benefitted cavalry more while also injecting some rules that favour infantry like Steadfast would help balance those troop types out, as 7th made cavalry too powerful and 8th made infantry too strong.
Of course the poor quality English is a worrying sign this is still fake, and though GW haven't explicitly said 8th will be the base of the edition to my knowledge, the fact they wrote the Cathay book in 8th first to establish balance plays a strong case toward that happening. Why people can't just state their wishful thinking as such and avoid all this trolling with false hope is beyond me. However we can still dream and hope at least some of it is true. Certainly I can see the 'Ravening Hordes'-style 'Get you by' lists appearing until they can get all the army books out, GW have at least improved in that regard.

I want them merely to release the 8th edition Cathay army book more than a new edition!

Does anybody understand what this statement is alluding to? They understood that the 8th was too big in the sense of Army building, even for GW Games.

Number of models required for the average sized battle. Lots of people want to play a cool rank and file fantasy game with amazing models, but not so many enjoy painting units of 30 models. Games like 40k and AoS have some armies/builds that can also field a viable army with not many models. Ogres were your only option for that in WFB.

At least the fluff won't be fully recycled, given they're set in an earlier era. I reckon we'll get the best/worst of both worlds - lots of content with both army books and campaign books (that allows for new models/rules updates outside of the army book cycle) with the downside that it's expensive to keep up to date.

Seeing block units twenty or thirty models strong on the table is exactly what attracts me to WFB. Hoard units can take it too far though (unless they are Goblins or Skaven).

---------------I did not make any of these statements. Roger. I was quoting your post above, where you presented somebody else's rumor. Sorry I didn't mean to put words in your mouth. But I see how it could be interpreted that way.

The idea that they said models aren't made yet shows this is nonsense. GW keeps an 18-24 month on lead time on all upcoming models. Molds are made no less than 18 months out, sometimes as long as three years. Unless old world is 3 more years away, its impossible.
I personally think we see old world summer 2022 if they stick with 3 year editions of their games. Because 2023 would be 10th edition 40k, and 2024 would be AoS 4th. It's doubtful they release two in the same year. So unless they go to a 4 year schedule, summer 2022 seems possible. I have no actual info on this obviously, just speculation based on 0ast behavior.

Remember they said “minimum 3 more years and probably more” in late 2019. It’s in the Warhammer-community webpage. That was before Covid delays. So I would not expect anything until summer 2023. Anything earlier then that is just a bonus
