There is a scatter dice in the box. Maybe the dice which determines the distance is replaced by a simple d6.
1-5: result × 2 = distance 6: misfire

Cool, so that article states that the year is IC 2276, I think that's the first time that the year has actually been stated.
This is approximately 26 years before the Great War Against Chaos (I assume the narrative will lead to a massive campaign supplement detailing the war). Though the Daemons of Chaos book (WFB 8E) indicated the Great War was 2271-2304...2271 I'd imagine counts the beginning/marshaling of the Chaos Horde.
Here are some events happening in this time period:
- 2201: King Louen Orc-Slayer declared an Errantry to rid Bretonnia of the Orc Hordes. - 2297: The Affair of the False Grail - 2302: Skaven are in civil war until the Great Summoning of 2302. - 2281-2286: The War of Sand and Snow. Valgar the Burtcher and his Chaos Host raid Khemri. Settra follows them back to Norsca and reclaims the loot.

How are you feeling about this release now? I am getting increasingly psyched about it now it’s so close.
Jury’s out on the rules until we see the whole thing and play some games, I suspect there will be some things I’m happy with and other things I dislike, possibly a lot (like every other edition of WFB).
Not offended about the outdated models - though I won’t be buying them.
Slightly annoyed by the number of rulebooks required. Though I bought every army book from 5th Ed onward even for the many armies I didn’t play so it’s just a (needlessly convoluted) variation on that.
But I always enjoy fitting my armies into a new army list and seeing what additional units or models that is encouraging me to paint.
I’m inspired by the narrative side too. My lifetime hobby goal is a huge chaos incursion army made up of numerous individual armies. Some of those are large painted armies I already have, others are planned. Some are daemons but there are several Beastmen and warriors armies. I like the idea of selecting, painting and playing with an army from my grand plan to match the current narrative focus of ToW. And building up the incursion horde as the ToW narrative progresses.
Right now I’m revisiting my ideas for my dormant Badlands Predator Beastmen army - who would be thematic opposition for the Tomb Kings on their way north. (This army will have models from 10+ manufacturers in it and only a handful of GW minis so buying all those army books will be my contribution to supporting the game).

How are you feeling about this release now? Slightly annoyed by the number of rulebooks required. I'm annoyed with the soft cover arcane journals instead of proper army books. Having faction rules spread between a large common book (Forces of Fantasy & Ravening Hordes) and a small arcane journal sounds really annoying. And if I let a friend fight me using one of my armies, we might both have faction rules in the same book (which I only have a single copy of). Other than the above complaint, I'm super excited for WH:TOW. Definitely need to read the entire rule book. But what they have previewed makes me optimistic for a well written set of rules. I prefer (and already own) the classic metal sculpts anyway. So Citadel re-releasing "outdated" plastic sculpts doesn't phase me one bit.

Getting more excited by the day for the actual release.
I for one like the reduction in books needed: I will only ever have to buy three books to play all armies in TOW, plus optional supplements if and when I want. Not to kid anyone: I will buy everything - but I will not strictly need it all.
As for the models: in theory I would never have to buy anything ever again, and could happily still build half a dozen sizable armies. This will of course not stop me from getting more - hello, my name is Darnok, and I am an addict. Of the two launch boxes I am really tempted by the Bretonnian one, but might try to talk myself out of it and go for the books only for the time being. I will probably still get it anyway, because I rarely can restrain myself with these things.
Been painting a lot of WHF models lately, and have yet to decide which faction will be my first "proper TOW army" - but damn excited either way!

New Tomb King models: Nekaph, Emissary of Settra
BTW, Nekaph is a special character in WFB 8th as well. This is his first time for a model though.

Beside the massive beetles (as big as his head!) scattered for no reason all over the model; I actually think it's a very nice sculpt.
