I love what you done so far as well! I do think the vortex looks a bit "stuck on" and not necessary for the model though. I think the design was to make as much difference from the Slaughterbrute (I think that was its name) as possible. It's definitely not necessary though. I'll admit it don't know very much about Chaos-anything, but if I were to ever forfeit my soul and delve into that realm, it'd be centered around this guy. I do a lot of Internet research to find inspiration for the models I'm currently working on and one thing that I stumbled across years ago was this. I thought it would make a perfect Purple Sun floating around the table or even a Sorcerer's Portal piece of scenery. Something to consider if you decide to remove it.

Awesome. I love the Vortex Beast kit. I'd love to get it one day. This is the first time ive seen one reposed. How hard was it to repose it? Did you just use greenstuff or was something else required? I love the vortex itself.......amazing bit....but it does kinda distract a bit from the beast proper. The blue looks very luscious. Thanks, Master Wang for the feedback. This kit does seem to get quite a bit of flak on the internet but I really like it...well, except for the slaughterbrute version. That head is rather bad. Reposing wasn't super-easy, it took a bit of thought to put the cut in the right place and minimize gaps. On the other hand, I used very little greenstuff, the shoulder area is such a mess of spikes and plates that you can't really go wrong. When in doubt, stick on another horn to cover up an area. I did use one random bit from my bits box (the part with the little eye) but you could probably go without any additional pieces or use the extra bits from the kit, I was tempted to stick on the Slaughterbrute's little T-Rex arms for example. I've decided to not do the vortex for now and call it finished so will take some more pictures. Maybe that'll explain the conversion part a bit better. I love what you done so far as well! Okay, here is the Mutalith Vortex Beast in all the glory I can bestow upon it. I kind of like how otherworldy blue it looks. The big horn on the top left and the armor plates right above and below is what I added to cover up the hole left after the arm repositioning. I think it does blend in because again, the whole critter is such a mess of armor plates and spikes and horns. so many spikes. I admit painting got painful at times. The wall became necessary because I couldn't get the arm to reach all the way to the ground. But, now I like it. "There is something behind me, right?" Seriously, being a soldier is hard enough when fighting bad guys with guns or swords. but this? Not sure how the Empire finds the recruits. Or maybe these Old Worlders are from a hardier stock than me. While I was at it I also snapped two pictures of these guys...they took the wrong turn on the Path to Glory. This is the freakiest part, looks like Gollum failed to reach demonhood: That's all for now.

Great stuff. Lovely grass photography. Got any plans for the vortex now? I think the mutalith looks better with it off.
Regarding empire soldiers.. i think they only volunteer to protect their families etc from the monstrosities pictured. Most i'm sure would rather be doing something else.

Regarding empire soldiers.. i think they only volunteer to protect their families etc from the monstrosities pictured. Most i'm sure would rather be doing something else. Thanks, Master Wang. No immediate plan for the vortex, it'll have to percolate way in the back of my brain for a while. To motivate recruits for the Imperial Army I was thinking more along the lines of press gangs, veiled threats for the well-being of their loved ones, a way out of crushing debt and so forth. But, I like your more idealistic view. The Old World is a big place, room for all kinds of soldiers. Today I brought some more Khorne. First, an overview (really, this should have come before the hounds): And here we have Kur'Vurgurd, Leader of the Pack, Despoiler of Klagenfurt and Bringer of Wrath. Despite (or maybe because for these are fickle gods) of his faithful slaughtering for Khorne, Kur'Vurgurd and his pack are currently mostly serving under a scheming and ambitious Lord of Change...but that's for another update. and with is gang The Skull Collectors. Always busy...and no sense of humor The Khorne Cannon. I am a big fan of this model. Guppy head, crazy contraption, nods to oldhammer, what's not too like?

Very cool khorne daemons. How many points does that come in at, a bit under 1,500?

cheers, guys Very cool khorne daemons. How many points does that come in at, a bit under 1,500? yes, it's about 1400 points, depending on how you kit out the squishy heralds. I can't stomach painting more bloodletters so I think it'll stay at that level for a while. I have a similar amount of Tzeentch daemons so together that gives me a good size army.

Finally got around to posting the rest of the Chaos Dwarfs. This is Gbar'eil's unit (reminder: he is the mighty Destroyer of Worlds from the beginning of this thread). They are a pain to rank up. I did raise some up on rocks, still there is only one way to make it work...just barely. and some close-ups of the command models. The bagpiper is my favorite model. Pretty original concept.

thanks guys. and speaking of that rune, I am procrastinating how to improve upon it. the gold is rather flat at the moment and since it's a flat surface I can't just slap on a wash. so what to do? some detailing...bearing in mind that my free hand skills are very limited. suggestions?

Let's go Tzeentch today! Here is my mighty Lord of Change with his minions This is by far my favorite of the greater demons of that generation. I went all out on him painting wise and took it as far as I can. Painted him maybe a year or two ago and it is still my painting high water mark I'd say. Getting the color gradient on the wings to look alright cost all kinds of blood, sweat and tears. Here are some more close-ups. and a Flaming chariot. This one is pulled together from old metal screamers a scratch built chassis and the proper exalted flamer. I guess I've never started putting together the disk rider from what's left in that kit. One day!
