maybe pulling that chain tight gets him in a real frenzy? don't they do something similar to the poor creatures in rodeos? ....it gives a whole new meaning to that look on his face!

Playing a bit of catch up with my project logs. Somehow taking proper (though admittedly that's debatable) pictures usually is lower on the list than painting. anyhow, on offer today is some Tzeentch. A classic first. I quite like the three faces though he is showing his age from the back. Those pink flaps is what passed for wings in the 80s. And here is a herad, a tad more modern. This guy was lots of fun. Tried my hand at something different with the blue on the disk and I think it worked out okay. Lastly, here we have Old Goggley Eyes, a chaos spawn. I built this guy back when stores had bits boxes full of metal bits and you could just rummage around and put things together in some weird way. Can't really go wrong with a spawn. Recently I cleaned up the old paint job a little bit. Left him on the old cardboard base for nostalgic reasons. Those were simpler times.

Yep the blue works very well. Inspired choice
And those wings! They look more like topknots. I still love the old sculpts though.

Early on in this pandemic, kaltheras and I agreed to each paint a 1k army in secret and then face each other in a surprise game once the virus ran out of steam and warhammer games were back on the menu. Well, turns out we ran out of steam before that damn virus. With no prospect of games in the near future and a need to increase hobby moral we met up via a little videoconference and lifted the secret (along with much banter). So, at this point, why not share with you guys as well. I guess this was a long winded way of saying here is 1k painted miniatures: I ended up doing a Nurgle Chaos Legion. Mostly because I was able to get good deals on hand-me-downs. I guess years ago, when I started this project log I said I wouldn't do Nurgle. Well, to nobody's surprise the jolly grandfather can't be denied forever. Starting out with the big boy, Maggoth Lord Bloab Rotspawned. Pretty crazy model to look at. Just glancing over the rules, an even crazier model to play with. The core. I really liked painting the plaguebearers. Mostly I just messed around with the contrast paints, then some details picked out and done. Will certainly do some more at some point. There are many more colors to try. The wonky. I found a few ancient nurglings in my bits box, filled up the bases with the chubby ones from the plaguebearer kit, lastly added a weird creature from ...Reaper(?) that looked the part. The three guys on the right are the start to a forsaken unit. For one I thought I needed to dilute down my powergaming army, I also liked the conversion potential. Need at least two more for a legal unit. The homebrew. Deathgrubs of Nurgle. I had ended up with Runewar Carrion Lancers (don't ask). Originally I wanted to have them join the undead, but the mounts really didn't look right. So to Nurgle they turned. I was able to use the stock legs (just snipped off skeleton toes and filled in skeleton legs a bit with greenstuff to make boots), then chopped up GW chaos plastics for the upper half of the riders. They will be the Nurgle version of Skullcrushers. I wrote up rules and will put that in the proper subforum for some feedback. So there we have it, just tiny bit above 1K. And pretty much unbeatable with that nigh unkillable lord. It was an accident! I swear. Anyway, kaltheras and I will still play the game at some point, I strongly suggested he paint up some more guys for his army. 1K of his would only be a small snack for the Nurgle power team above.

A worthy offering to Papa Nurgle indeed. He might even forgive you for not siding with him in the first place. The miniatures have loads of character and I think your paintjobs have complemented them wonderfully. I can't pull my eyes off of the Reaper creature, it's like straight out of an 80's horror movie. The Deathgrubs look the part too.
How many points is your chaos army? Seems to me like you guys must have all the minis for Volganof already completed?

Here are the rules I cooked up (just change the rider profile to make a beastmen version). Hoping for some feedback, please take a look everyone. eefl.freeforums.net/thread/2475/homebrew-woc-unit-deathgrubs-nurgle?page=1&scrollTo=48585A worthy offering to Papa Nurgle indeed. I have accumulated about 13K of Chaos between warriors, daemons & dwarfs. Kaltheras has around 3x more. Blown way past Volganof point totals. Yet, there are a few Volganof-specific models missing. A greater daemon I think and the crazy chaos dwarf engines. The real holdup is building the board which in turn is held up by needing a den to set it up. That needs to get resolved before we can make more progress on our lofty hobby dream.

Right. At long last, tenth months later, we finally got our Secret Army game in. But, that's okay because the pandemic is still on as well?!? Anyway, you are here for the pictures. This was also the inaugural game for the new porchhammer setup. As you may or may not remember, kaltheras and I each painted up a 1K army in secret. He, a glutton for punishment, picked goblins, I went with ET Nurgle Chaos Legion. All for the love of the models of course, that this army would be unbeatable was just an unfortunate side effect. Here is my big bad Bloab Rotspawn charging in like a big bad unbeatable boss. Except then he got wounded and broke and ran away! Luckily Bilespurter's lanky legs carried him to safety. Meanwhile, the mighty Death Grubs made their way through the forest and ended up working through the goblins like an unbeatable army is supposed to. Bloab rallied, came back and challenged the tiny little goblin boss to a deathmatch of doom. Turns out that goblin was vicious. Two rounds of combat later Bloab was on his last wound (out of EIGHT!) when finally his trusty mount Bilespurter thunderstomped the warboss into the soft ground. Embarrassment avoided, but only just. It was great to finally get back to gaming and put these pandemic project models on the table. Stay safe out there! Cheers.

It truly was a great game, and I am also surprised that my Night Goblin Warboss made it through even one round with a Maggoth Lord, let alone going two rounds and almost bringing you down. Alas, it was not too be and with the death of their general the last of the goblins collapsed. But still, we got Warhammer, beer, and pizza in the late October sun, and I really can't think of a better day!
