I think Swordmasters are absolutely OP, but only when we compare them to entries in other books like Bestigor (12 ppm) and Empire Greatswords (also 12 ppm)
Bestigors and Greatswords are very poor reference points, for they are... not that great, to put it mildly. For something to be considered "overpowered", in my opinion you have to compare it to good to excellent choices - and it has to come out on top.
Swordmasters are surely a good unit, but they suffer from competing with other elite infantry in the HE book.
Goblin doom-divers? Virtually a guaranteed S5 hit...
... with a solid chance of getting blown up in the process.
Doom Divers are certainly a great choice for O&G, no doubts about it. But they are a great choice in an overall mediocre to poor pool of units.

Units aren't straight costed against other books. Swordmasters are probably the least OP of the big 3 HE special choices. They hit hard but don't last. I wouldn't class them as OP

Yeah - that is what GW says. But in the end the points costs are quite arbitrary, to say the least. it is not exactly science and that why it is a good beer & pretzels game if you indulge in all aspects, being social, care for background, model & paint - to have fun with friends. And less great for "competetive" play, especially with awkwardsa and weirdos, ie stereotypical "gamers", which exists.

Swordmasters are surely a good unit, but they suffer from competing with other elite infantry in the HE book. Re-reading my post, I realize my point was not entirely clear. I believe that we agree wholeheartedly- my point was that Swordmasters are only OP when you compare them to suboptimal units like Bestigor and Greatswords (fine units but undertuned imo,) but I don’t think they’re even close to the strongest infantry unit in the game- hence my comparison to White Lions and PG. Granted, my definition and usage of “Overpowered” may be (and probably is) different than that of others.

Aye, we agree for sure - thanks for clearing it up!

White lions are good and should be a point or 2 more but they are only filthy once paired with the BOTWD and alarielle. That combo works with swordmasters too but not as effectively. One way to beat Banner of the World Dragon is Curse of Anraheir, because it forces the unit to take Dangerous Terrain tests and Dangerous Terrain tests are not magical attacks . They're also not shooting attacks so White Lions shouldn't benefit from their Lion Cloaks.

Not the most overpowered, but probably the most undercosted: Skaven Slaves.

Same odds as Dwellers. But you can avoid Curse of Anraheir by not moving.

Shame it doesn’t stop them moving at all but still, I’ll accept giving them second thoughts about charging!

Making that Dragon prince Deathstar stand still is a win in my eyes! it can still move normally without testing or am I missing something? I think the spell means it treats ALL terain as Dangerous, even open ground. So the Cav would have to test if they moved for whatever reason
