Thanks guys.
The problem with historicals is typically they don't have the heroic-sized hands and heads and weapons. So not all are useful. But yes, they can be a nice option.
Regarding the 'soft' colors...not sure. I think it is down to the washes. Agrax Earthshade on all things red/yellow/white/brown. Nightshade on the blues. Then highlight back some with the base color. Maybe the photography helps making them softer than they are? I've been using a lightbox lately.
Glad you like it.

Howdy! Just a little update today. For the most part I am chipping away at the last batch of Reiksguard and the finish line isn’t close. But, on the side I’ve been doing some more fun kaleidoscope Landsknecht. Recruitment is slow, the customary four guilders are probably not quite enough when facing a veritable Chaos invasion. A close up of the newest recruits, including the unit champion. This is a Warlord Games metal model. It is just a bit more petite than the plastic landsknechts (which in turn are petite compared to the GW models). I guess it depends on your tolerance for scale variation, I think he’d look a bit too dainty leading 7th edition GW state troops but fits in here. Also, yes, I went pink on landsknecht. If Osprey illustrations are anything to go by, that was a popular color choice. Lastly, here is Hilda of the Hassians. Ancient chieftain and now patron saint of Volganof. Legend has it she once refused Sigmar’s advances who was smitten by the fullness of her female form. There are many variations on how embarrassing for Sigmar her refusal was (ranging from a mild verbal refusal to a kick in the noggins). But, all important scholars count this episode as one of the famous Seven Humiliations of Sigmar which helped Sigmar transform from an impetuous tribal warlord to the founder of the great Empire of Man. Several people reported that in those dark hours when the Volganof’s wall were breached and foul beastmen burned down parts of the city, they saw an ancient warrior queen of blinding light, smiting the despoilers and guiding the people to safety. Great update and I love the Sigmar story.
I think the scale variation is fine and realistic. I mean we all vary in size afterall.

Yeah nice story! Paitning is awesome. Also, like the idea of mixing it with different sizes of models.

true, soldiers come in all sizes (don't google that). I have a little scenario idea about chaos defiling Hilda's shrine somewhere in the vicinity of Volganof with Holy Hilda fighting back. Hard to rally an opponent around here but, it will happen eventually.

Thanks KevinC. However, google "the gates of kislev" for the actual greatest project, not to mention all the really awesome stuff the hoodling was putting out back in the glory days. Now, I do feel the unit at the end of this post is a strong contender for 'most epic ever'. Check it out! ----------- 25Jun2018 At long last here is the Reiksguard. I’ve sculpted the sashes, I’ve painted the same tired horses over and over, I’ve pulled every last bit from the box to give them a sliver of individuality. My inner man separated from my inner boy and here we are: I’ve completed the unit of 45. Long term readers may remember that this is actually the SECOND Reiksguard unit for the battle of Volganof is crazy like that. So, here is what I hope is Lord Mortkins view right as things go south for him. Each unit clocks in at 1245 points…before characters. A gathering of standard bearers. Towards the end I was running out of ideas how to paint the same banner in the same colors. Can you tell I had my fill? Like every little gamer I dream of one day playing the grandest battles of them all at the Gates of Kislev. Now, at least I have one unit of the appropriate size. Lastly, a big thank you to the kind folks who have sent me bits (scabbards, pennants, shields etc.) over the years to kit out the Reiksguard units. I hope you feel I’ve put your gifts to good use. The counter is ticking down. The official Volganof counter: 932/969

Wow. Just. Wow. That. Is. AWESOOOOOOOOOOME!
With my luck, I'd lose a little unit of 5 Archers and then roll boxcars twice in a row for their panic check. Lol!
I don't know if I'll ever push my Knight units to that scale, but there is something super-cool about seeing so many Knights in one unit! HOW YA' LIKE ME NOW!
Now, you just need equivalent units of Inner Circle Knights (Knights Panther is MY preference) and Knights of the White Wolf! Easy peasy! Lol!

12Sep15 Here is another cannon for the walls of Volganof. Only three more to go. And, is there maybe an expert on renaissance artillery in the audience who could tell me what the guy on the left has in his hand? Because it sure looks like a beer mug to me (I was tempted to sculpt some foam)? Well, you would want to put Grandmaster in there to make the unit ItP. What would make me cry is a single unkillable, unbreakable daemon prince holding that unit in place all game long. Luckily, there are no Daemon Princes at Volganof. So they shall go from charge to glorious charge all the way through the chaos lines and back. That's the plan anyway.
I think for the foreseeable future I had my fill on knights...except for the three Demigryphs still needed for Volganof. But, you are right, I should post an updated list.

I love this. I’ve only seen knight units that size in the Hoodlings reports (as you mentioned) and the gates of Kislev. There is something special about cav unit’s in Horde formation. Can’t wait for the battle and photo dump!

Thanks, guys. knoffles, don't hold your breath. We still have a city to build. There are some older army shots on page 3. I will certainly do another photo shoot once I have painted the last thirty something models. Although with this many models it all just blends together at forum picture resolution/size.

27Jul2018 Howdy. After pushing through that knight unit it was time for something fun. So worked up an Iron Daemon (see the Chaos log for details). As I was snapping Iron Daemon pictures I realized I’ve never put my steam tank up on this project log. And so..who will win the DEMOLITION DERBY? (although they really don’t fight in the same weight class, I was surprised how close they are in size) The steam tank I painted many years ago and it shows. And it wasn’t helped by me overexposing the pictures. Still, out of a sense of completeness, here it is: I do have a second steam tank in the list and I only have tiny old tank as a second. So, maybe I will paint up another one to my current standards. But, not in the near future.
