Welcome Back to the Old World!
While the core focus of the Eighth Edition For Life (EEFL) Warhammer Forum remains the 8th edition of the Warhammer Fantasy Battles (WFB) game, we created this Warhammer: The Old World board section for players who will/are playing Game Workshop's new game based on Warhammer Fantasy Battles - Warhammer: The Old World (TOW).
We decided to create this board section to not only preserve our community of Warhammer players, but also to continue to expand our online forum community.
Whether you play WFB or TOW (or both!) we encourage you to participate and discuss your favorite hobby on our friendly EEFL Warhammer Forum.
Welcome to The Old World board section.

Cheers KevinC for getting round to doing this, looking forward to seeing the first TOW preview on Sunday! Here's hoping it restores the full amount life that Warhammer Fantasy once had!

I know I don't post here as much as I should. But with this journey I'm going to try my best. So with the old world coming I've decided to start an army that I've always wanted to do but just never did. With the rumors of there being factions within an army I decided to try my hand at Wood elves. But just the elves to start. So I got some stuff on 25 mm bases and I'm going to start getting undercoating going tonight.

Hey KevinC I just saw the addition of a TOW specific hobby board. If I may offer my unsolicited opinion I'd suggest against this division and would instead just have a general board for all hobby project. There's no need to make it even more dispersive and concentrating threads into a single location (where they'd be supposedly more active) helps with making the board feel more alive. ETA: same thing for the "Locate players" board. No need to disperse an already fairly empty board.

However, I am hoping to draw more players to these forums when TOW is released and so I'm thinking that having the full range of separate boards dedicated to TOW will encourage TOW players to come here... Anyone else have a thought about this?

I think separate sections for all the things that are distinct between the games makes sense (army lists, rules, battle reports, tactics).
Painting and Hobby projects are highly likely to overlap, with armies used for both, so should probably go in a separate section of their own, which is used for both 8th edition, TOW and all other editions of WFB painting logs.
The locate players/events section depends on how much traction both games continue to get, but probably makes sense to keep as just one shared section for now.

I also think the hobby and locate players sections should be edition independent.
I hope WH:TOW brings in more people to this forum. But I'm afraid the title will scare them off.

Personally, I like the separate sub-forums for each game. Neat and tidy.

Thank you for setting up these boards, KevinC! I would also vote for having the hobby and locate players boards be edition-independent. I have no doubt that many of us use our minis for multiple games.

Personally, I'm in agreement with the others here. We should keep things separate, but, rather than running two separate forums under one roof, there needs to be a certain level of integration if we want to draw in people prone to engaging in both games (aka, painting and modeling projects need to be under that tab so that everyone will see both). Otherwise, TOW players could easily just stay under this tab and never explore anything eighth related.
(It'd really be nice to see this forum escalate to the levels Warhammer-Empire was at before End Times happened. Rick, I know you remember!)

Rather than the End Times, I think the "blame" lies mostly on Reddit and the expansion of fewer massive online platform. It's an unfortunate reality of online communities. Then both End Times and the photobucket disaster were probably the final nail in the coffin for many warhammer - specific forums. What I always liked about forums is that they offer a much homely experience than any subreddit, Facebook group or discord channel will ever be able to offer. In the case of EEFL specifically, it's also the only forum that my work does not block or filters unlike the vast majority of hobby related forums; which meant I migrated from bugmans's to these very pages. It's actually a fear of mine that TOW might threaten the existence of this very forum, but I guess we'll see.

If anything, The End Time proved how popular WFB was. Do you know how difficult it was to get the End Times books when they were release? I had to sit in front of my computer at 1pm on each pre-order saturday to ensure I could order them...they sold out immediately.
I missed the Khaine book online, sold out within 5 mins. So, I had to go to a local GW store on the saturday of release where I stood in line for an hour before the store opened so I could get one. The store only received two copies and I got one of them.
WFB ending had NOTHING to do with 8th edition. For years 40K was outselling WFB by a large margin.
The truth is TOW is UNLIKELY to outsell 40K or AOS. People just don't buy it at the same rate. That's not going to change in the age of 3D printing, though I hope I'm wrong btw.
Also, if you are a WFB fan, I don't understand how you cannot like the End Times campaign books (other than the fact that the world was destroyed). The books were so well written and there was a thousand easter eggs referencing lore from WFB 2nd edition through 8 edition. And even 40K got some nods. It was amazing.
I've found that haters of the End Times don't know WFB lore that well (which is fine). I've been a hug fan of the WFB narrative since the late 80s, and the End Times is a treasure trove of WFB lore that brought everything together in a careful and graceful way.

I was talking about the end of forums, not of WFB.
The fact that people bought so much and so quickly anything that came out during ET only shows that people were hungry for new content and, for once, they were actually getting it.
What happened after is a different story. And I always failed to understand why people stop playing and it took them a few years to resume.
