Confirmed information: - All 8th edition armies will be playable in TOW - They will focus on armies currently fighting in the Old World (Empire, Chaos, Tomb Kings, Bretonnia, Wood Elves, Orcs & Goblins, etc.) - Timeline is during the Time of the Three Emperors, just before the Great War Against Chaos - EDIT: according to the Q&A there will be no start box.- Armies will get some new plastic and resin kits, some old kits will return

Its all totally ridiculous.
Sounds an awful lot like the original announcement was made by someone who was on their last day and wanted to mess with the company!
I'm still treating this as nothing more than a chance to pick up some of the Tomb King kits I'm missing and nothing more. They bumbled through the presentation, kept the Q&A stuff offline (which had more info than the actual presentation, and is being fed back to the general fandom in the form of Chinese whispers on the forums. Can't wait for the youtubers to start embellishing more details from tomorrow! )
The no starter set stuff is weird, as they have now backtracked on the no starter set news on twitter. Ridiculous backtracking at that! Claiming that a starter set is like the AoS sets, with the cardboard mats , easy start guide and dice, but the two armies + big rulebook isn't a 'starter set'.
It really seems like they either a- never intended this to become a project in the first place or b-lost key members of staff that were working on it and had to pivot the entire project.
What ever happened to idea that we would see things like Cathay and Kislev, after all those total war/old world articles they put up originally? Why has it suddenly become a release of nothing but old miniatures (and a couple of resin kits which look like they were cooked up by a 3D artist for a quick patreon grab) and speculation that the empire civil war stuff will come later on. Why are they saying they are focusing on just armies that were active in the 'old world' region, but then also saying that all 8th Ed armies will be supported and then the lizardmen are getting new sculpts in the Q&A?
None of this makes any sense. Any enthusiasm I had for this project is completely gone from today's presentation. The old world should be the easiest sell in the world to 'existing' WFB players. Instead we get this mess.

I suspect probably the result of war between executive factions in hq, between those who see the best chance of financial return being the best game where others want stuff which is copyright protected.

Wasn't there also a comment that this is aimed for veteran players who already own models. At this point I'm only excited for the potential terrain that eventually show up.

Instead we get this mess. GW potentially have different internal terminology for their boxed sets that's led to this confusion. Since WFB bit the dust, they've changed their approaches to "big boxes". As well as the big expensive new edition "launch sets", they also have limited-time "two themed armies" boxes (usually launched with a new character for each) and slimmed down "starter sets" aimed very much at beginners. I wouldn't expect TOW to get what GW now consider to be a "starter set" - easy to build push-fit models, cardboard scenery and a mat to play on. But it sounds like we're still likely getting a launch set that'll have two armies in it.

I was let down by lack of information. That being said, again I'm just waiting on the models, rules and all that are secondary as we have 8th Ed and anything new we can figure out amongst ourselves.

It was definitely an underwhelming announcement as a whole; I think we'd all expected a lot more - models, big box, dates. Probably means we're further off from launch than hoped for.

Probably means we're further off from launch than hoped for. we streamed the announcement on a big tv at our event and most players paused play to watch it and underwhelming was the general consensus. The only way they could have made people less enthusiastic was if they topped off the slideshow of artwork with another map reveal… I think the issue was that is was billed as one of the items at warhammer fest and the first time they have done TOW at an event. This hyped everyone up but in the end it felt like what they released could have just as easily been done in a community article

I mean, if they're handling this like 40k 10th edition, they didn't show the box until they announced a release date with a little over a month until release. I think 10th edition was announced earlier this year? If the rumor is November, there's still plenty of time for that to happen. They were giving the game a portion of an hour with Horus Heresy, and it was called a Preview. Expectations should have been tempered and set fairly low. I let myself get pretty excited, and was disappointed, but this isn't explicitly an indicator that it's further off than we might think. It could very well still be a 2024 release, but I'm still feeling confident we'll see it this year.

After this reveal, I'm just looking forward to the chance to fill out my 8th ed. mini needs. I really don't need to jump on the GW rollercoaster again, especially with the rebasing requirement for open play. That being said, if the rules are fairly priced or a free download, I'll give them the once over.

There was a lot more informationen in the FAQ afterwards. Read about it in several articles, but this guy sums it up pretty well in an overview video: youtu.be/DSVN3XJpezQSo there will be a launch box, it will just be called differently. It is also good news they don't plan to press AOS factions into the old World.

Although I'm excited to see what TOW brings, it almost feels like this is a campaign setting but with full rules to a war-game. The focus will be on the Old World events and armies.

I was not impressed by the Tomb King and Bretonnian Paladin being in awful Forge World Resin. I was really hoping that it would just be named characters and particularly massive units getting that treatment and that generic characters would be in plastic. I'm worried now about how much new plastic they're actually going to release for this.
I am certainly looking forward to seeing the return of the Fantasy plastics that were ditched, at least.
TOW not getting a starter box makes absolutely no sense for GW given that all the GW games currently in existence have a starter box, including Horus Heresy, TOW's 40K counterpart.
Their stance on Lizardmen according to the Q&A makes no sense - they're not going to re-release the old models for TOW, but they're expecting Lizardmen to be fully playable when the game drops? How the hell will Saurus Cavalry be represented? Because those boring new macro-velociraptors that replaced them do not look like a suitable proxy.
