there is that little detail of catching up with the trolls since they are twice as fast as the miners...

Push up on a flank or bring them in behind your forces, then push them up front.

there is that little detail of catching up with the trolls since they are twice as fast as the miners... When I tried it, it's all about drawing the trolls to the edges of the board as they move there to Nom tasty targets. Then with the Steamdrill you can hopefully move on and use the blasting charges that turn as no one expects the miners to shoot. I smashed a troll horde once due the the miners stripping regen and then my quarrellers and bolt throwers having a field day with the no save trolls. IIRC the blasting charges (12) did 3 wounds but then my quarrellers and especially bolt throwers (4 in a no gunpowder themed list) did exceptional work. This was vs a normal OnG troll horde though, not the fearsome WOC Throgg variation. Imo it shouldn't be so hard to pull off on an opponent the first time. A second time though........ It's just everyone uses flaming cannons with dwarfs.... it's boring. Blasting charge miners are unique and cool.... unfortunately this doesn't work well for Stand and Shoot as the trolls will have their regeneration back for the combat phase.

I agree on the 'unique and cool' part. Very much so, in fact.

To clarify, everybody uses the Rune of Burning on regular cannons, not the Flame Cannon - which is cool (hot?)!

In a world populated with WoC regenerating Chimeras, plus with trolls being priced just right and worth their points it's no wonder the Dwarves always bring the flaming rune on their cannons. I can't fault them for that. I guess there's also Vampire Counts with their Mortis Engines and no doubt other armies as well have ready access to regen. I personally don't see the undead at all anymore so that's not an issue for me

You also have Flammable units like Treemen, Treekin and some TKs. Ogres have the Trollguts Spell too.

Dwarves themselves have...irondrakes? The rare unit with the decent shooting attack.
dragonbane gem/dragonhelm characters
dragon princes.
flamespyre phoenix
don't chaos dwarf kadai have a ward save against flaming attacks as well? I haven't looked through that book in a while

Honestly, it doesn't seem to be that much stuff. And those few units (characters more than likely) can catch a regular cannon ball or bolt throwers.

I haven't looked through that book in a while Yeah the Kdaii do. Also the Taurus variations. Also Banner of World Dragon as the rune makes the attack 'magical' The thing is, with the cannons range and 360 arc, you can generally find something suitable even with all of the above. Definitely far more stuff with regeneration (Ogre kingdoms spell, TK Heirophant grants 6+ regeneration if I recall and other random regeneration buffs) than immune to fire. Actually...a Chaos Dwarf/Dwarf alliance can be absolutely brutal in that regards. I remember they have a spell which makes things flammable (Ash Storm)..... which is possibly why they don't have access to such long range, accurate flaming weapons as a cannon. Ash Storm is already a ridiculously brutal spell.

Actually...a Chaos Dwarf/Dwarf alliance EXCUSE ME! you know how many (fluff) bunnies died just because your wrote this?!? Hahaha. I wasn't talking fluff at that moment, just game efficiency. You know I actually think if it came down to it against say an army of Daemons that The Dawi and Dawi Zharr would ally over fighting... despite their hate for each other. All dwarfs are racist afterall Still, I completely accept your point, only in the most desperate of circumstances would Dwarfs and Chaos Dwarfs ally. I would happily play a battle of Dwarfs/Chaos Dwarfs vs High/Dark/Wood Elves.
