First, a little bit of background. Once a year me, my two brothers and our father get together to play a big 2 vs 2 Warhammer battle. The usual lineup is two armies on each side, 5,000 points per army (so 10k per side) and each army can include up to 1,000 points of monsters (from Storm of Magic or Monstrous Arcanum for example). We aren't too concerned with restrictions or balance -- if you build and paint it, you can field it. So far we've played 2 x Ogres vs. Chaos Warriors and Dark Elves, Lizardmen and Empire vs. Chaos Warriors and Beastmen, and 2 x Lizardmen vs. Chaos Warriors and Dark Elves.
This year is going to be a bit special for me as I'm going to play Night Goblins. O&G is my first army and I always considered myself a greenskin player at heart, but this is the first time I play them in our annual family showdown. We decided to play a battle for Karak Eight Peaks with Night Goblins and Skaven on one side and two Dwarf armies on the other. When we started planning it we thought it would fit in the War of Reclamation storyline started in the latest Dwarf army book. We decided to make this a special character driven battle, so I have to take Skarsnik, the Skaven player has to take Queek, the defending Dwarf army has to take Belegar and the relief force has to take Thorgrim.
A year and a half ago I finished my Nurgle Daemon army and turned my attention back to greenskins. I started out with an ambitious painting project, but then real life happened in a bad way and I had to put those plans on ice as my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. Likewise, we had to postpone the battle itself for a year -- it should have been this spring. I am happy to say my wife is now a recovering former cancer patient, and we are back on track and aim to play the battle in the spring of 2016.
These battles are mostly about getting together (I live 500km from the others), having a good time and showing off some new models, preferably of the more spectacular kind. One favourite moment was when my brothers had arranged a special soundtrack to play when they deployed the Forge World Emperor Chaos Dragon we had no idea they had. So obviously, this time I need to bring the coolest army I've ever fielded. It will have all the suitable monsters from Forge World but most of all I want to field tons and tons of Night Goblins.
Enough with the words already -- I know you all skipped to the pictures anyway! This is what I already have for this army, painted a couple of years ago:
This is Snotmug's Gigamob. Of all the units I've made it's definitely one of my favourites.
A mob of 30 Night Goblin archers.
A mob of 50 with hand weapons and shields -- tarpit formation.
Work in progress: the next gigamob. This will be Skarsnik's personal unit so obviously it needs to be bigger than Snotmug's, so I made a 12 wide, 10 deep formation. Most of the regular hoodies are done, I just need to add some fun stuff going on in the back ranks and fill out the big bases with enough models to get the right 'mob' feeling.
Thanks for looking! Thoughts and ideas welcome!
