Thanks, I'll start with that in a couple of years when they're old enough. I'll have to pick up some sacrificial models for the purpose though - can't have them wrecking the look of my armies

I am really glad to have found this site. I played a lot of 7th ED and enjoyed that version. When 8th came out, I liked what they did. Fast forward a few years and now my son is old enough to play, so back to painting and collecting.
I checked out 9th and thought that was pretty good , but for some reason I still like 8th the best. My wife says it's because it has been discontinued and I always gravitate toward the underdog.
Anyway I usually don't post much but I will visit often.

Hi I'm Alex from Sheffield, Inn south Yorkshire UK.
I have been into warhammer since I got the 4th edition core set for my birthday in 1992. I remember on that day taking the rule books with me to school reading them every minute available then coming home taking over the dining table, turning over the subuteo pitch upside down and shoving books underneath for hills and playing using the card buildings and cardboard cut out figures.i never played subuteo again, permanently lost an interest in sports and was hooked.
I have played warhammer consistently over the years. My first army was the orcs and goblins made of the 4th ed box with a few extra purchases: Wolf riders, Doom diver, a shaman on a spider, trolls and extra orcs and goblins from heroquest. From there my next armies were an empire army, and later a skaven army (lots of advanced heroquest and warhammer quest skaven in this army). Then as editions changed to 5th I spread out into dark elves and lizardmen. When 6th came my armies were settled as skaven, empire and dark elves although I did dabble with bretonnians and beast men. I think I played the storm of chaos with my beasts of chaos which was lots of fun. Then life started to get in the way. I sold and even gave away many armies during house moves and getting married. By 8th I was down to the dark elves being my favourites for background, fiction look and gameplay. I had a whale of a time with 8th. It was like previous versions of warhammer turned up to 11. More random, more crazy magic more monsters massive units and huge battles. I like other versions for sure (6th is pretty special to me as it really felt complete and a bit more grounded) but all the stuff that went into 8th Really generated good stories from your games.
Since warhammer was dropped by Gw I spent a bit of time wandering picking up and playing warmachine and getting back into roleplay games in a bigger way. But I still enjoy warhammer and with it having been such a big part of my gaming life it is not something I would give up easily. What is more I know that there are many things I never got around to doing in my warhammer hobby and still have to explore in 8th edition. I never played triumph and treachery, I never played a decent narrative campaign in 8th I never finished assembling and painting my final dark elf army and there are still gaps in my collection I would like to fill!
Right now I play my games at Rogue Gamers in Rotherham but am able to travel to play games across the wider Sheffield area. I know a few other players of 8th also that I can game with.

Howdy, thought I may as well register here since warseer where I previously lurked seems to be dieing out and I have a low tolerance for AoS stuff I am based in Leeds with a similar timeline to allhailthemachine. I am currently 8th-ifying all my old and new armies (O&G, HE, Empire, WoC, VC, Dwarfs, Daemons and soon some Big Hats) so each of these will play a part in my paint log which I will stick up once I have my next batch done

Welcome! Yes, Warseer has gone cold regarding actual Warhammer, so has Warhammer-Empire (it used to be so awesome there). You will find things to be positive here. A number of us have animosity for AoS/GW(now). Some are trying Kings and 9th. These people are known as heretics.

Hi everyone.
My name is Grant, I'm from France but currently living in Guangzhou, China. I hate what Games Workshop did with Age Of Sigmar so I am really happy to find people that are keeping 8th edition alive. I'm coming back to warhammer after a long break, now building a brand new army of Empire, Cult of Ulric. Long live 8th edition of warhammer !

Welcome aboard!
Can't be too easy to find opponents in China. But, there is always painting.

Thanks. It is indeed not easy to find opponents here. Nevertheless, I found a small community of foreigners whom are regularly playing 40k and some fantasy, 8th edition. We'll see how it's like to play in China
