Hello everyone! I thought that it might be fun and useful to have a thread where we share the various builds we've tested out for Chaos Lords and how succesfull they were.
I've only ever tried out one once but he was pretty dang good as he almost singlehandely wiped out a Steam Tank and a unit of Empire Knights. This was the build:
Chaos Lord [384pts]: Barded Chaos Steed, Mark of Nurgle, Shield Chaos Mutations & Powers: Flaming Breath, Soul Feeder Magic Items:Hellfire Sword,Talisman of Endurance

So a normal but maybe not so fun for your opponent is going Hortense (name comes from someone who complained a lot 😊 in some way.
Basic is disc, mark of tzen, eye of tzen, crown of command, some shield, gem(maybe not needed as its protected as hell anyway) and ward save.
Going for full mobility with flying. 1+/3+ rerollable 1s. Make it unkillable if it doesn't break, and that's where the crown comes in, top it any way you want with for example gw+ soul feeder losing wounds to gain them back by going last.
It's as nasty as it gets so bring it when your opponent wants to bring his best units or too top off another less good fluffy list.

If I am aiming for fun I just generally theme it around whichever god they are. I.e. Khorne = killing machine

If I am aiming for fun I just generally theme it around whichever god they are. I.e. Khorne = killing machine So if you were to build a Nurgle Lord I presume you would then theme it around being an incredibly tough slow hitter? Such as this perhaps? Chaos Lord [403pts]:Great weapon, Mark of Nurgle, Palanquin of Nurgle Chaos Mutations & Powers: Nurgle's Rot, Scaled Skin, Soul Feeder Magic Items: Talisman of Preservation, Trickster's Helm And for a Slaaneshi Lord perhaps something a kin to a sadomasochistic guided missile? Chaos Lord [393pts]: Halberd, Mark of Slaanesh, Steed of Slaanesh Chaos Mutations & Powers: Poisonous Slime, Scaled Skin, Soul Feeder Magic Items: Helm of Many Eyes, Pendant of Slaanesh, Dawnstone

I took a Chaos Lord a while ago that I had great success with and 10/10 would use again:
Chaos Lord MoN Shield Hellfire Sword Helm of Many Eyes Soulfeeder Scaly Skin
Could modify this as needed: mount him and lose the scaly skin being the obvious one. But he pretty much one-rounds anyone he comes in contact with thanks to not allowing the opponents an armor save and doing D6 wounds. I would look out for opponents with a high toughness though as he has no way to reliably wound them and he's "only" Strength 5.
If I could change anything on him it would be the helm...I'd consider losing rerolled attacks for something like a ward save or other tricksters shard. This build is pretty good against characters that rely on things like fencers blades and glittering scales as their primary/only defense.
Haven't tested it yet against ogres but I think it would be particularly nasty against them, being able to kill any of their characters in a single round of combat with some lucky rolls (1-2 wounds getting through @d6 wounds each = dead ogre character; something that is completely likely to happen)

Yeah the Hellfire Sword is one ass-kicking piece of equipment. AFAIK though it's 'only' D3 wounds and not D6.

You're right! It's D3.
I wish there were more multi-wound weapons out there though. It would make Ogre gutstars and large monsters much easier to deal with.

My favorite Nurgle build is Fencers blades Glittering scales Scaly skin Then add whatever you fancy. WS 10, -2 to be hit, so only gets hit on a roll of 6, this build work with sorcerers as well. A normal lord could drop the Fencers blades as he still has WS 8, then you could add a wardsave or a nasty weapon instead.

My favorite Chaos Lord is MoK, Juggernaught, Helm of many Eyes, Sword of Anti Heroes, talisman of preservation.
I’ve also had success with Flail and Other Tricksters Shard, instead of Anti-Heroes.

So a normal but maybe not so fun for your opponent is going Hortense (name comes from someone who complained a lot 😊 in some way. I was over at the Chamber of the Everchosen when all that went down. Such good memories. I remember the forum was discussing a suitable name for the 1+ 3++ rr1 unkillable Chaos Lord. Then along came the mythical man hortennse and dropped this thread: www.tapatalk.com/groups/cotec/do-you-guys-realize-how-unfair-the-chaos-lord-is-t3636.htmlThe rest is history! I love how the name spread to a whole slew of warhammer forums! I wonder if he ever realized that the character was named after him (he left the forum pretty quickly).

When you say 'left the forum' I think you mean was selected by Tzeentch for Daemonhood...
