Understandable, I have mixed feelings also about the WoC characters. I played the Daemon Prince in 6th edition as I like the concept very much, even when he really was quite underwhelming ruleswise, and now I have to admit that I feel rewarded for my patience with the model. But yeah, in my sane moments, I will acknowledge that he does a bit too much: unbreakable, hitting relatively hard, very hard to remove and a high level caster with some of the most destructive and/or annoying magic lores to choose from. The Chaos Lord struggles to compete with the sheer versatility of the Daemon Prince, but I will continue to field him nonetheless. He is a bit more specialized and also hampered by the "Eye of the Gods"-rule, but I like him enough to give him a go every now and then In friendly games the one balancing factor I add to WOC Daemon Princes is to make them Stubborn, Daemonic Instability like the DOC Daemon Princes. Soul Feeder doesn't work on Thunderstomps the way we play and that makes them a lot more fair. I remember the old Daemon Prince (300 points?) ..which was pretty useless for the points but the pendulum definitely swung too far the other way with the 8th Edition book. Chaos Lords are 'purer' combat beasts and the 100 point magic item limit makes them unique in their own way. Those builds of yours are plenty hard enough lol 😆

I think part of it is I also love the aesthetic look of any of the warriors of chaos that hark back to the Heroquest models. It’s 100% nostalgia!

My cheese MoT lord build is:
Shield, armour of destiny(think that’s the name - sorry, don’t have my book atm), dawnstone, sword of might, potion of foolhardiness, scaled skin, 3rd eye of tz, soul feeder, manticore.
Gives a 1+/3++ with the 1+ re-rollable, the 3++ can re-roll 1s, a bit of extra strength and an extra attack once a game. The manticore can be swapped with any mount.
To be fair I’ve never fielded this lord - I just threaten my friends with it when they’re getting cheesy

For the other lords theme based:
Khorne Magic sword for 60 pts gives +3 attacks (forget the name), helm of many eyes, potion of foolhardiness, luck stone, poisonous slime, flame breath, juggernaut Maximum attacks this way. (10 on one turned of the game)
Nurgle Filth mace, glittering scales, tal. Of preservation, shield, scaled skin, nurgles rot, soul feeder, palanquin
Slaanesh (bear with me I don’t make many slaanesh lirds and I don’t have my book) Fencers blades, tal. Of preservation, potion of strength, scaled skin, soul feeder, the slaanesh gift that makes enemies take a leadership test before they can attack him. (Alternative is drop the talisman for helm of many eyes and/or other tricksters shard)
Unmarked Hellfire sword, potion of foolhardiness, tal. Of endurance, shield, flame breath, burning body(?), soul feeder, chaos steed or barded daemonic mount

Unfortunately Poionous Slime doesn't work with a Magical Weapon.
As for the unmarked lord I actually played that once but without the burning body and with MoN on a Chaos Steed. I can say that it was one hell of a butcher against Empire Steam Tanks and Knights.

Poisonous slime doesn’t work with a magic weapon? Oh shit. I’ve been playing that wrong for years then. Where’s the rule for that?
