Understandable, I have mixed feelings also about the WoC characters. I played the Daemon Prince in 6th edition as I like the concept very much, even when he really was quite underwhelming ruleswise, and now I have to admit that I feel rewarded for my patience with the model. But yeah, in my sane moments, I will acknowledge that he does a bit too much: unbreakable, hitting relatively hard, very hard to remove and a high level caster with some of the most destructive and/or annoying magic lores to choose from. The Chaos Lord struggles to compete with the sheer versatility of the Daemon Prince, but I will continue to field him nonetheless. He is a bit more specialized and also hampered by the "Eye of the Gods"-rule, but I like him enough to give him a go every now and then In friendly games the one balancing factor I add to WOC Daemon Princes is to make them Stubborn, Daemonic Instability like the DOC Daemon Princes. Soul Feeder doesn't work on Thunderstomps the way we play and that makes them a lot more fair. I remember the old Daemon Prince (300 points?) ..which was pretty useless for the points but the pendulum definitely swung too far the other way with the 8th Edition book. Chaos Lords are 'purer' combat beasts and the 100 point magic item limit makes them unique in their own way. Those builds of yours are plenty hard enough lol 😆

I think part of it is I also love the aesthetic look of any of the warriors of chaos that hark back to the Heroquest models. It’s 100% nostalgia!
