10 Darkshards join the fray: They were quick and easy to paint; next up is 20 Bleakswords who hopefully should be just as simple. That's 30 of my target 105 Druchii infantry completed (plus a bonus character) so maybe I should be able to get most of the way to my target over the next couple of months?

Good work! There is always something you notice you've missed I find... One day I shall hope to paint this cleanly!

Have just noticed I missed the backs of their necks for the baldies I quite like the fact they look like they have armour on the necks.

Honestly, I never would've noticed if you didn't say anything. It works as armor too.

Great models and great paint job, I've got 20 darkshards to paint but they're the inferior 6th edition ones, these ones look so much better.

Great job. I agree that the back of the neck works either way as armor or skin. This post is good motivation. I'll be doing some darkshards next month.

I fixed the necks up the day after spotting it, as that kind of thing would bug me. Thankfully it was just 4 of them that needed it. I'm working on 20 Bleakswords at the moment - should have them done within a couple of weeks.
The 6th edition warriors are okay - there are worse core troops out there - but line them up next to the 8th ones, and they just look so inferior.

For the sake of completeness I feel the need to post this photo of my Darkshards, now with necks: Here are my Bleakswords - 20 of them. A bit small for a unit of this type (30 would be ideal). Maybe I'll expand them in the future. I use different sigils (transfers) on all my Druchii banners. I can see how using the same icon would bring the army together, but I think the matching uniforms/colours/painting styles does that already. Plus there are so many cool transfers that I don't mind having some units from different cities in Naggaroth, or with different god runes on their banners. The Druchii do fight as a nation something (usually when kicking the High Elves). I'm up to 50 of my target 105 DE infantry by the end of the year. Next up my metal Black Guard, which should take me to 73 by the end of the month.

23 Black Guard -- I bought these guys off Ebay years ago as I wanted them in metal not resin. For some reason it came with two champions - the original bare-headed one with the fat spiky sword (which looks crap) and the newer helmeted one with halberd. I should've taken the sword off the original one and given him another weapon, but it's too late now. These were fairly easy to paint - more so than the newer Black Guard. I like both versions equally - the plastic BG are more menacing, but these guys look more sadistic, and the cloaks and poses on the command group really capture the elven arrogance. I'm up to 73/105 for my "end of year" challenge, so I'm getting there.

So cool. Your whole army is turning out amazing. Looking forward to a shot of all of them together.

A few more pictures of this metal Dreadlord / Master -- he also works as a good Tullaris Dreadbringer. My only change to it was the helmet "horns" - I used a more impressive set from the Black Dragon kit. I've got the other version of this model (hand weapon + shield) but managed to inadvertently use the shield in my Malus Darkblade conversion, and chopped off its hand in the process. I've now extracted that shield from Malus, but I'm now left with two models to fix Back at the start of September, I said I wanted to complete 100 more Dark Elf models by the end of the year. A month and a half later, my progress is: 20 Executioners
- 23 Black Guard
- 10 Darkshards
- 20 Bleakswords
- 22 Witch Elves
- 10 Shades
Which means I need to get a serious move on. I really like the horns on the model. Great job. Classic Dreadlord.

So cool. Your whole army is turning out amazing. Looking forward to a shot of all of them together. Thanks. I really need to do army shots, but they take so long to set up (why not spend that time painting instead?) and I've still got so much more to paint - they'd be outdated within a few weeks. The only army I've ever 100% finished was my Dwarf one, and then I went and got some more Dawi. If/when I ever finish another army, I'll make sure to do full army shots then.
