Managed to take photos of another army, shelf bound again i'm afraid. On the plus side i only managed to send one minotaur tumbling off it and add to my repairs backlog, d'oh. Characters (also have Gorthor, on foot, and Khazrak but needing repairs) 10 5th ed warhounds 3 Tuskgor Chariots 10 6th ed Warhounds 10 Ungor raiders and a Giant 50 (actually 42 models inc 4 hounds due to unit fillers) 30 Gors with Hw/SH 24 Gors with additional hand weapon BULLS ON PARADE! Doombull, Gorebull BSB and 3x6 Minos This is obviously not an army optimised for 8th edition, all the ungor and minotaurs but not many ahw gors and no razorgors or bestigor. Long story, might put another post on about it later in the thread.

Thought I’d explain the history of this army, it’s my oldest. I started it in 5th Ed, the first time there was a distinct Beastmen list. Some of the metal characters and gor command models, the 5th Ed hounds, 2 chariots and 12 of the Minos are survivors of that army. The rest of it was a unit of plastic monopose halberd gors and a metal unit each of bestigor, ungor spears and ungor skirmishers. (Plus 2 Dragon ogres and 12 harpies now in other armies). When the 6th Ed Beasts of Chaos book came out I re-jigged and expanded the Beastmen as they became my main army. The plastic gors were retired and plenty more models added. I probably hit 200 models painted, easily 3k points plus. Come 2008 and they went on the shelf. The 7th Ed power books coming out that year plus the loss of my warriors and daemons units (Khorne knights and furies) as the chaos armies were fully split meant they dropped from mid-tier to the basement. I was looking forward a lot to the 7th Ed book, thinking I’d have a table ready force. Was hugely disappointed. Overcosted new monsters with no models, a new unit with a single ugly sculpt, Overcosted infantry, I would clearly need more than 16 bestigor but didn’t want to paint any more of the old metals and worst of all I would need to re-base my ungor. Again! Also the problem that between incompatible paint schemes and generations of models (plastic ungor are twice the size of the metals) I couldn’t combine the gors or ungors from any of my (mixed) beastherd units with any others. This bit I did to myself. I was quite happy playing chaos warriors at the time and carried on with that for the whole of 8th - so the sad truth is I never even fielded the beasts during 8th - other than One time I fielded a horde of 18 Minos in a 6k warriors heavy Khorne Legion of chaos. Built them specifically to take down Hellebron, cauldron and witch elf horde - which they did. I bit the bullet and sold off my old metal ungors and bestigor and slowly repainted gors and ungors to make coherent units in the background but without a particular plan. Since the End Times I’ve done a bit more painting but targeted at Kings of War (bumping the Minos up to 6s) and the ninth age (the 50 model ungor unit). Was good to get the beasts back on the table even if it wasn’t 8th Ed. I am finally getting some plastic bestigor painted at the moment though and have a bunch of Mierce razorgors to come so (partially inspired by some of the bat reps and list chat on here) I’ll be looking to remedy that soon. Better late than never!

Thanks for uploading - great to see some old metal! The champion leading the sword and board Gor is one of my favourite Chaos models. Great unit.

An excellent array of the True Children of Chaos there! I've just started a Warherd myself and I've been impressed by the positively big amount of support for Beastmen on here.
Regarding your Ungors, have you bitten the bullet and rebased them on 20mm bases or are they still on 25mms? Because if you've still kept them on 25s you're in luck, because I'm writing my own 8th Edition Beastman book that (spoiler alert) brings back Mixed Herds to the party! (I like the Mixed Herd mechanic, it's really something that differentiates Beastmen from Orcs and Goblins, for example, and I have a feeling it'll work better in 8th now spears can support in up to three ranks). Even if you have rebased them, I personally am not worried about other players having to put 20 mm base Ungors behind 25 mm base Gors, I'd rather there be some space between those Ungor models than be a cause of a mass rebasing operation!
I look forward to seeing your new additions when they are finished!

Thanks for the comments guys Lordofskullpass - yeah I did rebase them to 20mms (the plastic ones). Couldn't face rebasing the metal ungors a second time so sold them. I don't miss the 6th ed beastherds so much for the mixed unit rule as for the skirmishing and reasonably competent ambushing. I'm not experienced with beasts in 8th ed as i've said but just letting them have the BRB ambush rule (without needing a normally deployed counterpart) seems like it would go a long way.

That’s a stunning army! Nice to read the journey with it. I actually played a lot more with my beasts in KOW 2nd edition, than warhammer initially. I really enjoyed using them in that, though the changes to them in 3rd edition put me off so much that I haven’t played it since!

What a beautiful Beastmen army. I really like the dark colour scheme metal oop Gor especially although it's all awesome.
