Can you expand a touch on the 'mainly 7th' part?
So Cavalry is king once more?
No 'step up' etc...

I don't know that level of detail on each element of the game.
I do know that random charging is gone. Back to double movement.

I have it on good authority that the rulebook is printed. Likely out at the end of year? Mainly 7th ed rules, with some changes. Subdued magic, and 360 arc of sight for some units. The rest of what I know, I won't post here š Most interesting, this is definitely all from your friend(s) who are allegedly working on the project? The rulebook being released at the end of this year sounds unlikely because GW have always released new Editions and landmark new games, including Horus Heresy, in July in the past, but then GW have broken traditions before (such as reducing the time between new Editions from 4 years, as it was in the proper Warhammer era, to 3 as it is for AoS and 40K now). Sounds very good indeed, so long as they tweak Fear and Terror to avoid Daemons being OP again . I enjoyed playing 7th when it ruled the roost, and it will be fun to see it return, hopefully with the more sensible additions from 8th like shields being usable against shooting, step up, and units having a second rank of supporting attacks.

GW don“t do big Christmas releases? Was a long time since i was keeping up with GW properly..
Interesting things thjough.I am kinda starting to really like 8th Ed and we might step back? Kinda mixed on that.. lol.. But i could live with coming back to the older stuff. (Though 7th Ed never felt good to me, just some stupid things, mostly, over 6th Ed with much more power creep)

This is how I feel too. I HATED that aspect of double charges. All I can say is this better not become cavalry-hammer again.

Going back to the original question.
Power level has never been a factor in me playing Warhammer; or even just in list building. And TOW, regardless of what it'll be like will also not change my purchasing habits: I might buy the rulebook.
but that's about it. GW miniatures have been pass my comfort level, price wise, since I begun. So they'll continue to see exactly zero money from me for that.

I wish I had your resolve but if compatible with older rules I know new GW fantasy minis are in my future.

I do know that random charging is gone. Back to double movement. Logically that means no premeasuring and maybe guess range weapons are back as well. Both those would be poor choices.

If they support the game like they're supporting AoS, I couldn't care less how my army ranks in terms of meta potency at the start. Rules will be updated, rebalanced, added or removed, and probably see seasonal General's Handbook style documents. I just want them to get the core rules out there already!

I don't really see how that could work with fixed length charges. Unless getting the charge doesn't really mean much. Impossible to say without having access to the full rules.

My friends were not raving about the rules (like I said, already printed). But obviously chuffed with the return itself.
They suggested a swift FAQ post release would occur.
To add, KoW has fixed length charges - seems to work for that game. Maybe it's a way to bring those players over? Who knows.
