- The old 20mm bases are no longer a thing.
- Models previosly on 20mm bases are now on 25mm ones.
Although it was a pain to arrange Halberdiers on 20mm bases - but actually more because of GW's stupidity insasmuch as the base size itself - I have to say an army of skinks on 25mm bases is just going to look ridiculous

Agreed on both points.
I plan to do an O&G army mostly on the new base sizes. Of course mostly because "new game, new cool!", but also partly because I always found a lot of O&G models hard to properly rank up. With the bigger bases I see no such issues.
BUT!
There is no way I am doing Nightgoblins on 25mm bases - they just look lost on them. The current NG sculpts rank up perfectly on 20mm bases, and they look properly "horde-y" in units. I will keep them on 20mm, and will not use unit bases to "adapt" them to the bigger footprint either.
Same for the current generation of Skaven Clanrats/Slaves. To me this is a highly visual hobby - so if it looks bad to me, I will not do it.

I won't be rebasing anything... Even if TOW takes off. I'd like the option to play previous editions / KoW too. So I have made base converters:

If all goes well I’ve snagged one of the boxed sets, my harebrained scheme is to use the bases in that box turned upside down in a movement tray and sit the models (which will be based for older editions) inside those bases, it works well enough.

Just bought all the books and reference cards...
If it all goes flop, at least I was there 😂

Cost a fortune and I'd rather have brought more minis than books/cards knowing full well GW are god awful when it comes to stocking cards. Fear I've set myself up for plenty of FOMO card chasing now, but thought at worst I can sell them for a bit more as there will always be someone chasing them harder. I can at least say I brought into the game and will give it a fair shot before going back to older editions. I sometimes worry I spend too much on warhammer, but thankfully it never really devalues if I did ever have to sell anything and its not like I do much else being a total recluse that works from home.

I got all the books, the Bret starter set, Grail Knights, and some of the new bases. I skipped on the cards, as I don't know whether I'll play the game enough to warrant getting them. The books will be interesting long-term regardless.
I was intending to get the foot/mounted BSB, foot Paladin, and Handmaiden, but all were out of stock by the time I got through the queue. Same with the Grail Reliquae, and I chose not to get the Battle Pilgrims just yet as I want them together with the Reliquae. I left the Pegasus BSB for now, as things were starting to get expensive. Likewise with TK kits that interest me like the GW Ushabti.
My main next interest is getting the foot KoTR as soon as they're out, as I want to use parts from them for the mounted KoTR and Pegasus Knights.

My main next interest is getting the foot KoTR as soon as they're out, as I want to use parts from them for the mounted KoTR and Pegasus Knights. Wow I'm surprised the pilgrims are OOS. I brought one of each, as Bretonnians are one of the only armies I own nothing for. I really like those units and want them to be the focal point in the army. But they were expensive, I didn't think they would be the thing to go out of stock if I'm honest. Same with the forgeworld stuff. For how much people complain about prices, people do really seem happy to buy it up still! I had the same thought on the cards as you, I really don't think tow will be adopted as a ruleset here, but I thought it would be easier to get them and in two weeks if I have buyers remorse even sell them or even return them to the store rather than try to hunt them down later on. I'm def waiting on the KoTR too. I'm not sure I'll use them as a unit themselves, I think Bretonnians have enough stuff as it is without needing another knight unit but those parts are really going to spice up the old sculpts. I got the Pegasus as that bannerbearer version is the one I want over the lord version in the set. Apparently their is not enough shields on the sprue to build the Pegasus as it is in the instructions/box art. Wonder if this is a mistake or perhaps originally the kit came with all three sprues needed to build it with double shields. The queue sucked. Over an hour of waiting. Of the two 'local' stores I'm able to use (neither of which are local lol) one was sold out of EVERYTHING but movement trays before it even went online. Ridiculous even putting the items up at that point. The other store had everything bar a couple of the TK kits. Had to use direct for the metal and cards, which sucks as I don't have much luck with GW direct in the past few years. I will look forward to getting that part of the order in about three months, missing only 4 or 5 items hopefully! Even if I stick with old editions, GW got their cut of the release. I just hope that the terrain comes back but not for another month or so, give it some time to have been paid again.

I picked up all the books (bar the TK arcane one), Bret box, pilgrims and reliquae and the Bret and magic lore cards. I may have gone a little overboard but I figured that was me sorted for a good while. I did have it in my head to start a TK army but the price on doing that would have got a little out of hand…

As this is the bases thread thought I’d point out that all the square base packs are available for pre-order on the GW website though I had to search with “Old World bases” to find them. £30 for 100 Infantry squares (either size), £12 for 20 cav ones (either size). Not too bad, no doubt cheaper alternatives out there but I can live with them.
Of course that’s because i’m not rebasing existing models or I wouldn’t be quite so sanguine about it. Looking to paint a new army (mostly non-GW figs) for ToW. And replenish my stocks of 25mm squares for stuff in the stash that’ll be getting 8th Ed basing.

You can find packs of 100 25mm GW style black bases on ebay for around 10 dollars. I got them mailed to Australia just fine twice.

Absolutely no units with 20mm bases? Either GW didn't really think this through or maybe I am completely underestimating the advantage that a 10x5 block of skinks or gnoblars would have with 20mm bases against 25mm, as opposed to having 25mm themselves A 20mm base 10er block would be 20cm wide A 25mm base 10er block of enemies 25 cm (2.5cm + 20cm + 2.5cm) The 10 skinks would still have base contact with 10 enemies if my imagination isn't off completely.

I think you could make them work with lots of mushrooms and basing etc.
I just would never rebase for TOW when you can just use old bases and play every edition. If you are sticklers for base sizes or play competitively just use tray converters
