High elves only lose when the player f***s up. Bastards are fast, great magic, fabulous tactics and best beast in the game. Ten out ten would date.

They also have one of the best banners in the entire game. As far as the Frostheart goes, it is definitely one of the best monsters in the game, although I would personally give the edge to the HPA.

Nope, don't agree. Everybody and their girlfriend love the HPA but it has never contributed anything to our games. It keeps getting shot. The Frostchicken can fly and that changes the game completely. Usually because it is flying next to a thousand arrows. In my group you can only play HE if you lost five games in a row and need to feel good again.

In my group you can only play HE if you lost five games in a row and need to feel good again. Well I think they are both fantastic monsters in terms of power. Of course they work in very different ways, where the Frostheart is more of a support unit due to its debuffs and the HPA is a hammer unit that is stubborn. I'm not sure how the HPA was being played in your games so that it contributed nothing. I've seen HPAs single handily wreck armies. As for getting shot, that is no different for the Frostheart. They both have protection from shooting in terms of a 4+ regeneration save vs. a 5+ ward save. The Frostheart also has a mobility advantage, but it is difficult to protect oneself against warmachine fire. As far as High Elves in general, they are definitely EXTREMELY potent, but they are far from uncontested. My WoC will give them a good run for their money! I'd also like to see how a savvy Wood Elf player would fare, since they can put out some very significant mobile ranged fire (which High Elves definitely do not appreciate). That said, I fully agree that High Elves have a very firm place in the upper tier of armies!

I think Empire can sometimes make it into the discussion for upper tier. I think Dwarfs can sometimes make it into the discussion for upper tier.
Elves in general are just so good - Fast, shooty, hit hard, craft, magical, sneaky. Always striking first, always re-rolling to hit me. I dunno, Elves are good in 8th. Just. Damn. Good.
W.o.C. are always gonna be a big heavy axe. Smash!!!! They can be beat, no doubt - but they should never be underestimated.

Warriors of Chaos are by far the strongest of the three fantasy armies that I own. They have lots of very nasty choices and access to (what is in my opinion) the best combat character in the game. Overall they are strong both offensively and defensively.

My votes - Warriors Definitely top tier, elite infantry, filthy builds, many good options. - Dark Elves So many rerolls - High Elves ASF, Great special choices - Skaven Theory this one.. never fought them in 8th. They have some nasty pieces, nuke spells and can put down ridiculous sized units

Skaven are the most fun (other thread) but too unpredictable for top-tier in my opinion. Unless you play a skaven army without randomness and that's like taking a full close combat snotling army: interesting but missing the point.

It all depends on how the warmachines perform (Skaven warmachines are more unforgiving) and what the fanatics do. Foot of Gork has killed a lot, A LOT more than the Dreaded Thirteenth. Foot has killed 72 in one game. Dreaded Thirteenth as a maximum....I think three. But all of that can be because we suck :-) I can see your point

They lack the skaven leadership mechanics so are more unpredictable in terms of the whole army just routing off the board. They have several units like fanatics, manglers, pump wagons etc which are inherently random but possibly devastating. The magic is a little patchy, but you are right the foot is awesome. And of course animosity. The most solid choice is the core savage orcs which is why they feature in every net list. Even these can be frenzy baited. When things are going well O&G can really wreck face but the whole army is prone to just falling apart with a few bad dice rolls

Fellblade, WLC, DOOMWHEEL, Weapon teams, Furnace, is there anything in the Skaven arsenal that does not kill rats? That's also why I love them. You HAVE to play as if skaven lives do not matter. Oh, I do so love my ratboys OnG has only backfired once for me, when I loaded up on fanatics and all of them were triggered in the first round. I froze and didn't dare to advance, which ended in utter failure for team Orc. Hmm, now I don't know what to play in the next game...Bretonnia should be able to win one game sometime. But killing skavenslaves....choices
