From what I understand, and have been told, GW is changing up some things in 40K, which also effects AoS (and probably TOW). They are starting to get heavily in the tournament scene. This is their way of combating 3D printing. They will (are?) host "official" GW sponsored tournaments at all of the major conventions, etc. and only GW models are considered legal. Not even Forge World models will be considered due to "balance" issues. (Apparently, this is due to problems with Dreadnoughts being abused in these games, and the imbalance with Space Marines.) They're going in heavy on this by making their sponsored events so prominent, that others seem to be merely warm ups for the big game. And if 3D prints or other company models aren't allowed, then what's the point in using them??? That's their theory, and with their financial backing, it'd be difficult to combat.
So, IMO, these models will sell. Even at ridiculous prices. I'm sure GW has figured out that "sweet spot" of pricing so as to not drive people away, maintain a profit/model manufacturing expense/ customer loyalty/ ratio that will be the peak benefit to their company. It's not what model collectors like us want to see, but difficult to argue from a business perspective. Limiting purchases to one per customer, works to keep secondary markets, like eBay, from undercutting their price structure, as well.
Since GW is letting TOW be sold by FW, and it will be a specialist game like HH, that should counterbalance the loss of revenue from Space Marine parts sells. So, a bit of shuffling by GW, of their corporate structure and focus on priorities. Hopefully, this won't effect what we're getting or what's made available.

I was a big tournament player from the very first US WFB GT in 1996 through 2015. Only GW models were allowed in GW events and I'd say the tournaments helped the players stay GW only with their purchases.

That might help with some players. But many players, myself included, have zero interest in tournaments. So, IMO, these models will sell. Even at ridiculous prices. I'm sure GW has figured out that "sweet spot" of pricing so as to not drive people away, maintain a profit/model manufacturing expense/ customer loyalty/ ratio that will be the peak benefit to their company. Limiting purchases to one per customer, works to keep secondary markets, like eBay, from undercutting their price structure, as well. Yes. GW prices their products to maximize corporate profit. Despite people on the Internet complaining, the products continue to sell. If the models didn't sell at these "ridiculous" prices GW would adjust. But they rarely have to. I don't blame them one bit for pricing their products this way. The idea that WH:TOW is going to be primarily supported by forgeworld has been debunked. The majority of WH:TOW models will be citadel plastic.

Fine by me; I've found some really good GW 3D prints - all the fun/quality/validity, but for a 16th of the cost.
I'm sure their plan is gonna work...

GW have been enforcing an 'our-models-only' policy for as long as I can remember. I can understand them wanting to combat the increasing popularity and accessibility of 3D-printing, but those measures are only going to affect those 'superfan' players who attend the official tournaments. I and likely many others won't be involved in those sorts of tournaments for a variety of reasons (not being into tournaments and preferring games with mates, living too far away to attend the official tournaments, preferring tournaments in their local games club or independent retailer, e.t.c), and thus are not restricted in this way. Personally I'm not into 3D-printing for other reasons (high initial starting costs, space, safety issues, prints not always being entirely reliable, STL file prices rising sharply for units, preferring to support hard plastic manufacturers and brick-and-mortar stores), so for me it's all about hard plastic - as GW are now taking the mickey with their prices, I'm increasingly being drawn to other manufacturers like North Star, e.t.c where possible, and only buy the older, more affordable kits from GW. I certainly hope GW don't give the returning TOW plastics too much of a price hike...

I'll play devil's advocate... Looking at USA prices, the new Saurus Warriors are priced the same as a unit of Primaris Marines. Ten models for $60. The new Saurus Warriors are about the same size as Primaris Marines. So the price seems... appropriate? (Full disclosure, Lizardmen are one of the few WFB factions I don't collect. So I'm not personally affected by the price.) I'd probably use the word 'consistent' over 'appropriate. regardless, it's a valid point

3d printing it is then... GW becomes a rules company? 🤣 Let's be honest, us here in the 'dead' 8th world have been using GW as a rules coy for a while now and even then we've had to make up our own to suit our needs...

Exactly - if this is their plan, "to control the tournament scene = is to neuter the 3D printing market", Then they're doomed to fail.
Theyre bringing back a version of WFB, but leaving out some major armies, alienating some of the fan base from the start. (but PDF rules which won't be updated, gee whizz). That is actively working against them.
Indy tournaments have been comfortably comping the rules for decades, and allowing 3rd party miniatures - doubt that would stop.
There's a relatively active 6th and 8th ed tournament scene in the UK... Not bad for games that aren't actively supported.
3D printing is so cheap, especially when it only needs 1 person in your gaming group to get one, and start printing for everyone.
There are plenty of GW prints online, which I imagine will increase if they make more supported tournaments *AND* increase their prices.

I think the people with armies that are not getting new army books will grumble make a lot of noise and when it drops will buy new armies It's what I would have done if beastmen were still not getting a new army book or rules or whatever !

GW needs to sell their miniatures for the game to remain on the market. If players do not buy TOW models from GW, then the game will dropped. The way I see it, unfortunately, it is 3D printing that can doom the TOW game.

I don't know if it'll doom the game, but things like TOW will definitely remain a specialist game if models aren't selling well. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with using a 3D printed model here or there, as I thinks it only adds to the creativity and draw to the game, but I definitely don't want to face guys who brings entire Bret armies comprised of My Little Pony. There's definitely a line.

Some classic Lizardmen characters are on Made to Order until 19th June. I didn't see that announced, but they're on the GW site. Mainly Skink characters, but also the previous Saurus on Carnosaur, Lord Kroak and a really old Slann being carried by Temple Guard.
