Welcome to my Dwarf hobby blog!
This is my first proper post on here. I’ve put the odd pic on FB but now I’ve painted my way to 2500 points I feel like I need to mark the moment.
I played 4th/5th as a teenager and have recently been getting into 8th. I really like 8th ed as an overall game system and I can’t wait to schedule some regular games in. In my opinion a ‘fluffy’ army is an army with lots of core infantry.. EEFL!
I’ll talk more about myself later but for now here’s some of what I’ve been up to over the past nine months or so...
Horde of Dwarf Warriors
Firstly a confession - I bought the vast majority of these warriors second hand on a job lot! So whoever painted them originally, if you’re out there, they have received a lot of TLC.. I’ve rebased all of them and added some details, champions and characters to the unit and now they feel like my own!
They make a great centrepiece unit for my general (until I get my Lord on shieldbearers painted) - Thane Thoraz Galazgrund.
Longbeards
This is all my own work. I’m a big fan of drybrushing for metal and I layered on bronze and gold before the silver to give that weathered effect.
Slayers
I love these old models and try not to duplicate any of the poses to give them lots of character. They also have fantastic beards for drybrushing with red, orange and yellow.
Bolt throwers
Im a big fan of the 4th ed ‘wooden wheels’ war machines over the newer 6th ed style (which remind me of Skyrim..!)
Organ guns
Flame cannons
This is one of my favourite ever models. The crew have so much character.
BSB and a few other individual models
I was really unsure about the BSB conversion for a long time and considered scrapping it right until the end but now it’s finished I like it. It was my first attempt at a freehand banner and it was difficult on a curved surface! The image is from a gyrocopter insignia.
Things in the pipeline:
- Marauder dwarf warriors with great weapons
- ironbreakers
- 6th ed longbeards
- 2 more runesmiths
- cannon (i suppose I’ll need one at some point!)
Things I probably won’t do:
- Quarrellers / thunderers - I love the models but I prefer war machines for ranged attacks and I have enough of them already.
- irondrakes - I don’t like the models. They look too 40k for me
Still undecided on gyrocopters....
Cheers,
Simon
